1/28/10

1.28.2010 • in the late morning

While I was recovering at home I watched a LOT of T.V since I had to be in bed 90% of the time.
I came across the usual daytime court shows and talk shows, but one night I got sucked in by a train wreck of a show. “Little Miss Perfect” is like a big pile of roadkill on a highway.

There is a pageant for the title about every week it seems, so as pageants go this one is no biggie but the parents...OMG the parents!!! The mothers!!!
These people act as if their girls are competing for the Miss Universe crown. You can tell the moms are living vicariously through their daughters, they are not “typical” pageant moms as they are a little rough around the edges.

Every episode I’ve seen has made me cringe at some point, putting acrylic nails on an 8 year old?? spray tanning and hair extensions?
One mom actually said to her daughter “We are not doing Play*boy...you’re not 18 yet” Seriously? that’s the best you can imagine for your daughter at 18?(or any age)
(Watch her on the video at 1:27 and see what I mean)

As a kid I did pageants because my best friend did and we wanted to hang out even more, the most our moms did to get us ready was sponge roll our hair the night before, we didn’t wear make-up and we wore our Sunday dresses and the same bathing suit we wore to the pool all summer.
I hate to talk about little girls this way but, I can’t help but think that some of them end up looking like little strippers in their get-ups, that’s just sad to me.
